Stuxnet worm 'targeted high-value Iranian assets'

One of the most sophisticated pieces of malware ever detected was probably targeting ;high value; infrastructure in Iran, experts have told the BBC.

Stuxnet's complexity suggests it could only have been written by a ;nation state;, some researchers have claimed.

Coupled that with the fact that it seeks to find specifically 'Siemens' industrial control software .....
and complexity of techniques being applied (several of which are totally new according to this news bit) including multiple ways to spread itself; I think their speculation is very near to truth, and we can speculate which nation state that may be

Anyway, I guess, this sort of activity will only going to pick up in the longer run, beside it seems neither Siemens nor MS solutions are being used in any of the Iranian facilities in question .......
so the jury is out on utility of this tactic for me.

Tutorial: Building an external hard drive

Sick of backing up all your data on to CD's and DVD's? Not enough dough to buy a portable hard drive? Then this is the perfect solution.
You can build your own portable hard drive for about 50% cheaper than you can buy it.
And best of all, it is one of the easiest things to do and takes about 5-10 minutes.
This tutorial will show you exactly how to.

Step 1: Preparation
Get a Hard Drive (naturally):
I recommend getting a good quality, high capacity 7200RPM IDE hard drive.
There is no huge price difference between a low and a high quality drive, and a high capacity hdd will not cost that much more than a low capacity one (unless you're buying a 750gb Seagate raptor:P).
7200RPM because they are significantly cheaper than 10000rpm ones - and in practice there is no noticeable difference.
An IDE drive because once again, there is no noticeable difference between IDE and SATA + the case will be a lot cheaper.
IDE also because IDE is compatible with all systems meaning there is no chance that you will need to buy a eSATA port.
The cache, should be 8mb, since - once again - there is little (if any) price difference.
Something like a Western digital 200gb drive is very good (see:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16822144129).

Also you will need to buy an external case.

I recommend an aluminium USB 2.0 one - aluminium due to better heat disapation, and USB2.0 since there is no significant speed difference between USB 2.0 and Firewire + USB 2.0 is a lot cheaper and compatible with all computers.
Cases range from $20 to $100 (for a cheapy look on eBay).
Naturally you need an IDE case, if your making an IDE drive and SATA for a SATA Drive.
Also I recommend one that supports plug and play and hotswap, to make use that bit simpler.
Something like the i-rocks IR-9400C is a very nice case for a reasonable price (see: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16817201012).
The case will come with all cables etc, so you shouldn

HP Nx6325 power adapter

Power adapter for my nx6325 died a while ago, so I ordered a new one from ebay.
The original one had these specs: 18.5V 3.5A 65W.
The one I ordered should have had the same specs, but when I received it this morning it looked the same, but the specs where as following: 19V 3.16A 60W.

My question is: Can I still use this power adapter without damaging the laptop or setting something on fire?

My System:

Hi guys any help will be great.
I have a packard bell utow-ori currently when I turn on the pc the red light on the front flashes and then goes out the blue led flashes and then nothing happens.
Could this be the psu which is a 250w?

I have a HP Pavilion 7806 which has a 250 w PSU however the dimensions are different this works when I put the power lead into it.
Could i swap the psu's even though the dimensions are different.
I am an absolute novice at this stuff as you might have guessed any thoughts would be great.

Thanks Jared

Is there anything like this?

I've just bought a new iMac, and what I would like to do is sync documents between that and my MacBook, without carrying them on a memory stick.
I want to have a copy of the same document on both macs, but when I make a change on one of them, I want it to update the other, something online, free if possible!

Help with playing BFBC 2 on public router access?

I just bought Battlefield Bad Company 2 but I am not finding any servers in Multiplayer.

Is there another way I can join the multiplayer games on BFBC2?

Syncing itunes with two macs, is it possible?

This new iMac has made a whole lot of problems! Sorry if I'm asking way too many questions, I have tried google, but cant seem to find a clear answer.
What I want to do is sync my itunes library from my macbook pro onto my imac, as any new music i download is done on the mpb via a download client (cough cough!) I just dont want to keep transferring them over manually, is there anything that will automatically copy music over and any changes made to either library? Seems like apple have missed a trick here.

Accessing Data on an old Hard Drive

I'm finally getting round to sorting out a new PC, and once it is delivered, I would like to access some data on the Hard Drive in the old PC.
Mainly I just want to get my music files.
Once I have those there is nothing else I need.

Being a bit of a newb at such things, I've had a mooch around the net to try and find what I need to accomplish this, and it seems all I need is one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-SATA-Ada...238565&sr=8-15

to connect the Hard Drive to the new PC.
Once I've copied the files I want, that should be it? Kind of seems too easy, really.
Am I missing something obvious?

Old PC ran Win XP, most likely the new PC will use Windows 7, if that makes a difference?

Samsung SGH-L700 Problem

I have some questions regarding method to install java games in SGH-L700.

Quote:

In the phone Menu select
'Settings'

Then select
'Phone settings'

Then
'USB settings'

And choose
'Ask on connection'

Plug the Phone in to the PC with the USB cable

On the phone selct
'Media player'

On the PC wait until it detects the phone and select
'Open the device to view files'

Open the folder
'Phone'

You should see the folders: Images, Other files, Sounds, Videos

Create a new folder and name it
'Games'

Put any game you want to install in that 'Games' folder

Two things need to made sure of when copying over the games.
Firstly make sure you have the *.jar and *.jad files for each game, if you don't have the *.jad file, you can download a jad creator pretty easily, just type it in Google.
Secondly each game has to be in it's own folder, if you just dump all the *.jar and *.jad files directly into the 'Games' folder only the first game installed will work (Poorly too).

Unplug the phone

Now on the phone dial the code:

*#6984125*#

Select 'Internals' (Number 4)
It will ask for a master key it is:

*#9072641*#

Select 'Storage settings' (Number 7)

Update Java DB (Number 2)

1.
Is it one time process or I'll have to repeat it everytime I download a new game to mobile from PC.

2.
Will this trick work with games on MicroSD Card on mobile.

3.
What are the charges of dialing the code ;*#6984125*#;.

UNLOCK Samsung E800

Dear all people who are good at this (i.e.not me as I am rubbish!)

I need to get an unlock code for my Samsung E800 which is currently on Orange.
In a couple of weeks (after expiration of the contract), I need to use it on another network, and currently, it won't accept the sim for that network.

Orange have very kindly provided me the details of this website to help with my problem.

The IMEI no is 345159/00/126018/7
Model SGH-E800

Anything else needed - can anyone help me? Previously I had used a different forum place thing and was given a number which started with a #.
These never work in this phone, immediately you input a # or * into the relevant area it tells you the password is too short.
Bloody annoying little bugger it is!

Thanks soo much

AlienFX Pidgin + Winamp plugin

I'm currently developing a Plugin for the Pidgin Messager and Winamp which uses the AlienFX to display events.
The pidgin plugin is already working but the colors can not be set yet (they are hard programmed).
If a few of you poeply would like to have the pidgin plugin too I would improve it and release it soon.

Furthermore I'm working on a winamp visualization plugin which uses AlienFX to display the beats.
Currently the beat deteciton doesn't work porperly but I'm working on it.
Who of you would be interested in this plugin?

I just wanted to know so that I know if the effort is worth it.

Finally I completely documented the protocol to communicate with the AlienFX device.
It just needs some more polishing.
I plan on releasing it soon.
Who of you would be interested in that?

Regards Ingrater

P.s.
I will be without internet for a few days so just don't wonder if I don't answer.

Edit: If you are searching for the download links: 3d.benjamin-thaut.de

Update 31.10.2010: I fixed the plugin.
It does not longer crash winamp upon closing winamp or upon ending the plugin.
Also it does now automatically detect which laptop is used, you don't need to hand edit config files any more.

Video tutorial: anthonydamasco was so kind to create a video tutorial on howto setup, you can find it here: AlienFX Pidgin + Winamp plugin

Sony monitor replacement

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, VGN-FW520.
The screen is damaged.
Does anyone know if all the FW series would have the same screen? In other words, any screen with the same size and number of lights would fit mine? Please help..

Wire responsible for power is broken

I have a sony fw and like many others the hinge was loose.
It eventually fell off leaving the wire exposed.
After a while the wire broke.
There is no way to charge my computer? How can i fix this? Glue the wire? see if the warranty is still valid? if it is how much will it cost? how much will it cost if it is not? Find someway to charge the battery(like if 3rd parties make battery charging stations) and use the computer that way? What are my options and their associated prices?

I'd appreciate any responses.
It is very difficult to get by without a computer.
You never realize how much you depend on it till its broken.

Thank you.

Which Dell laptop to buy?

Guys, CONSIDERING a Dell laptop but don't know which model.

I do NOT play games
I do NOT do 3D
I do NOT do video editing

I do most general business stuff and graphics like Photoshop and Corel.
Seldom very big files.

HOWEVER, I am extremely impatient and even my desktop overclocked to 4ghz isn't fast enough.

I constantly keep a buttload of windows open and I can have 5-10 programs open at one time and up to 50-60 tabs in firefox.

I do NOT run stuff in the background such as an antivirus (well, not on purpose anyway).

I want a killer screen (sharp, vivid, good saturation, bright) and I would like at least TWO hard drives.
I also want numerical keyboard but other than that, screen size is not that important.

NO need for Blu Ray

Battery life not that important as I'll use it mostly around the house.

I doubt I want to pay around 7-800 more for the "i7-940XM Extreme Edition" so with that in mind, what do you suggest for me?

Thanks for any help and since I'm looking to do this NOW before my HP and Asus laptop return periods expire (to compare with side by side and they both had things I didn't like), I'd like some quick answers please.

I'm emphasizing the please part so that you guys understand I'm NOT trying to be arrogant but I am in a bit of a hurry...

Strange Flickering/SloMo Troubles

So I have been having this trouble for a while but it has become significantly worse lately as I have been trying to upgrade drivers for my Mobility Radeon x1600 on windows 7.
First off my PC is a HP nx9420 business notebook with a Intel Core 2 Duo duel core T2500 @ 2GHz and 4Mb of ram and the above mentioned ATI Mobility Radeon X1600.
The problem is that when I run any type of graphical program, like a game or a computer generated video, my screen will flash for a half second and the program will go into a ;slo-mo; like mode where everything runs super slow.
It will flash again after about 8 seconds and return to normal for another few seconds then flash again to the ;slo-mo; and back again and it will continue this way indefinitely unless the game is a very graphically demanding one at which time it will just reboot the computer.
It is doing it right now as I am typing this because I have CCC open in the background with the little 3D video running.
I was under the impression that the trouble was with the graphics card drivers and the fact that the card is not supported on windows 7, however I was able to successfully apply the 9-11 legacy drivers where as before the system just used the ;windows compatibility drivers;.
But I am clueless what the problem could be now.
Is the graphics card bad or going bad? Would some other piece of hardware be causing this? Any ideas from you all would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

HDMI port doesn't work after the use of VGA

Hey,
strange title, I know.
I was using the HDMI port of my Laptop to connect it to my TV and the VGA port to connect an additional monitor to my Laptop.
So the usual screen I had was my Laptop's plus the additional monitor and in case I wanted to watch a movie I used Windows+P and the option ;projector only(hope the translation is correct) to get the screen of my main monitor to my TV.
This worked just fine till I connected a beamer via the VGA port to my Laptop.
Now my Laptop doesn't use the HDMI port a the ;projector; port, instead it uses the VGA port.
It doesn't even recognize it when I have nothing plugged into the VGA port.
I installed the newest graphic drivers, I plugged in nothing but the HDMI cable(with my TV), nothing seems to work.
It won't use the HDMI port anymore.
I really want to watch movies again with my TV, so I hope you guys have an idea what I could do

I'm using Windows 7 64bit with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.

Thanks in advance

Can't decided between vostro and inspiron

I am in the market for a new laptop and am definately getting a Dell.
I am replacing a Toshiba Satellite 17" and I had nothing but problems.
I can't decide between the Vostro 3700, Inspiron 17r or Inspiron 15r.

I will mainly be transporting it between home and office daily and doing work at home as well.
Vostro 3700 and Inspiron seem similar but I've heard that the vostros don't have as much entertainment possibilities? Not sure what that means.

I won't be using it for gaming, mainly editing photos (I'm a realtor), doing spreadsheets, browsing the web, etc.

Thanks!

What's the current sweet spot for 1.8" SSDs (price/performance)

I have a new-to-me computer on the way (an HP Elitebook 2730p tablet)
Specs:
Core 2 Duo SL9400 / 1.86 GHz LV - Centrino 2 with vPro
4 GB RAM
80 GB HDD
GMA 4500MHD

I am wanting to drop in an SSD and recognize that the 1.8" limits me in terms of choice.
This unit will be running Windows 7 and is used as my portable laptop (while my better equipped notebooks remain on docking stations).
I don't anticipate needing more that 64-80GB on this (even with W7 eating up 20GBs of that).
I will throw in an SD card if I need an additional 8-16GBs.

I have been trying to get up to speed on SSDs and I have been reading a lot of threads, but am still having a hard time discerning the current "best option" in the 1.8" world.
Any suggestions?

Desktop Manager - Syncing errors

Hi guys,

Anyone ever had an issue with desktop manager synching with outlook?
As soon as I try and setup the connection and choose outlook, I get an error ;the operation has terminated unexpectedly; - if I chose windows 7 contacts its fine but as you can appreciate it cant really compare to outlook.

I have done the following:

Reinstalled outlook - no go.
Done a clean uninstall of DM removing all registry entries and folders - no go.

Bit annoyed with it now as it works on my laptop fine with outlook but I use my desktop like 99% of the time at home.

Googling it doesnt seem to bring much results.
I think the problem first occured when one of my contacts in my address book on my bold 9700 became corrupted not letting me open it hence it caused the sync error to begin with.
I have had to wipe my BB as a result and still nothing.

Acer Aspire 5532 CPU upgrade help?

Hello all, this is my first post, so please bare with me.
I just purchased my first laptop, I wanted a cheap, but functional laptop, so I choose the Acer Aspire 5532.
I've been building and repairing PCs for years, but I have never messed with Laptop repair other then software issues and replacing RAM.
I decided to upgrade the CPU to a AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core TL60.
I started to try and disassemble the laptop, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do so.
I've looked for tutorials for the 5532 with no luck, and I've looked at video tutorials on youtube, but they don't have any for the 5532.
Can someone please give me some insight, or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!!

X201 Wireless disabled after Undocking

thanks in advance for your input.

On the road, so the wireless switch is on, both wifi and bt are enabled.
Come home, slap the x201 in the Ultrabase.
Wired connection takes over.
Want to leave.
Undock x201 and go.
On the road, wireless card is disabled.
Must troubleshoot and enable wireless.

WHY does it not remember?

This is not an issue if I remember to turn off the wireless switch prior to docking, but this kills my BT which I need (sometimes) for a keyboard.

LG KU990i or LG GW520

Hiya,

I am going to replace my Sony Ericsson phone soon and I have been researching what phone to get.
I want to stay on the three network and the two phones that I have narrowed down my search to after looking at quite a few factors such as camera, keyboard etc are LG KU990i and LG GW520.

So am just wondering which model is better than the other?

Anyone used one or both of these phones before and if so, I would be grateful if you could tell me the pros and cons of the phone model.

Thanks, all help is much appreciated

Its an Acer Aspire 7520 running 64bit Windows 7.
Upgrades: 2x2Gb matched pair RAM & a 2nd HDD.
I've checked temps, and they are fine (as discussed in another thread).

Idle CPU 45C, GPU 65C
I've also totally removed any dust from the inside of the system using compressed air and replaced the standard thermal paste with Artic Silver 5, although the heatpad on the chipset(GPU) couldn't be replaced this way.

Happy to answer any questions on my setup etc.

TIA

x201 temperature in Ultrabase

I play ONE game on my x201 both docked in the Ultrabase and undocked.

Undocked temperatures reach 61-62 while in the Ultrabase they reach 74.

74 is nothing to be worried about but still is there some hidden vent / switch I need to flip?

The Official BlackBerry Storm2 Thread

Gsmarena posted some pics and info about the upcoming storm 2.
Apparently it'll have wifi, the keys on the bottom will be touch ones, although the camera is still a 3.2mp excuse affair.

Replacing broken power jack.

Sony Vaio PCG-V505DXP.
Upgrading laptop hard drive.

Sony Vaio PCG-FXA63.
Removing and replacing keyboard.

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ645.
Removing LCD screen and inverter board.

Sony Vaio PCG-K series.
Taking apart and replacing DC power jack.

Sony Vaio VGN-FZ220.
Replacing damaged power socket.

I'll keep creating new disassembly guides when I get new Sony laptops for repair.
Enjoy.

Viewty - how to unzoom the screen?

Hi everyone,

I have just logged onto the internet and for some reason every site I go on is coming up in like a zoom mode where the letters are massive.
I don't recall selecting anything to make the lettering bigger, but is there some setting or other I can use to make it go back to smaller lettering?
